
Island Foundation is beginning the celebration of Bicycle Day next month when LSD commemorates its 62nd year by offering one of the three Bicyle Day Posters out of the original 120 in the possession of Island Foundation. The monies donated in exchange for the poster Will –as have all donations raise thus far through the sale of these posters will go toward the completion of the Island Sanctuary Five Year Plan which is nearing its publication date.
With only three of these great posters left and a desire to keep at least one of them for our offices, there will not be many more chances to get one of these well-loved reminders of a special moment in space and time.

This 15in x 20in (approx 35cm x 50cm) full color poster was created for a 50th Anniversary of LSD event which was held in the Bay Area on April 16- 17, 1993. Special designed by artist Max Doubt, the poster quickly became a collector’s item after its initial distribution during at the time of the event.
The poster shows a silhouetted young man with hat and cape speedily peddling on a bicycle with colorful archetypal shapes flying off of him. Large monogrammed letters on the top say "Psychedelics" "Summit" and Cannabis." On the bottom are the dates and places of each event in the same monogrammed letters. Around the edges of the picture which are black in white letters is a sentence from Hofmann’s description of his bicycle ride. On the white outside borders of the poster there is a list of celebrities who attended the events including Timothy Leary, Terence McKenna, Laura Huxley, Rick Doblin, Bruce Eisner, Claudio Naranjo, Paul Krasner and many others.
The History of the Poster: In 2001, Bruce Eisner, President of the Island Foundation asked Albert Hofmann to personally sign 120 of the Bicycle Day Posters to enhance their collectibity and value. The purpose of this Bicycle Day Special Edition was to raise funds for the Island Sanctuary Project’s Five Year Plan. Since that time, Island Foundation has sold 117 of the 120 created with three remaing in its Sanctuary Project achieves. You can read more about the history of the poster at Island Web’s Poster Site.
One of the remaining posters which is hand numbered "55 of 120" will be sold during this auction for the benefit of the Island Sanctuary Project. The poster is very good condition, suitable for mounting and framing. It will also be supplied with a copy of correspondence between Albert Hofmann and I which attests to the poster’s authenticity.
