I discovered Urth.TV last week and joined immediately. I used to speak at the Whole Life Expo in the 1980s, both myself and with Timothy Leary. I’m already a member of at least a dozen social networks and usually pass on new memberships but URT.TV is interesting and worth a look. Here is an excerpt from URT.TV’s history and mission:
In early 2006, a group of conscious entrepreneurs led by Ayman Sawaf , Rowan Gabrielle and Joey Shepp bought the assets of the Wholelife expos and conferences with plans to take the Wholelife experience online-24/7 to the global market -thus the birth of Urth.tv
Since 1981, the WholeLife Expos have been one of the early pioneers and leaders of the Quality of life and consciousness movement offering expositions & conferences across the country where thousands of people gathered around best-selling authors, cutting edge speakers and hundreds of âtrusted vendorsâ to socialize, network, shop, learn, teach and be entertained in a spirit of community and celebration. To many, the wholelife expo was one of the original community social networks ushering the age of Party-cipation. It has served over a million loyal customers and over 10,000 authors, artist, practitioners and vendors while successfully connecting the cultural creative communities.
In spring of 2006 Urth.tv / beta began aggregating members, content providers and vendors. Launched on Earth Day of 2007 Urth.tv is a social, media, and commerce platform promoting global citizenship and living a conscious and Whole Life. Urth.tv members are already creating the next generation of conscious media: Global Citizen Media with Urthâs interactive video player, uploading their businesses and services in the market place, and building their spiritual families. Later this year, Urth.tv will introduce the ability for values-based groups to create their own branded social networking communities thus becoming the umbrella platform connecting the cultural creative communities through media and commerce.
